EV charger installation in Morocco: home, villa, residence or business
How EV charger installation works in Morocco: the steps, choosing between 7 kW single-phase and 11 or 22 kW three-phase, and what actually drives the cost of the job.
Key takeaways
- A proper installation starts with a site survey: the power of your supply, the distance to the parking space, and the state of the electrical panel.
- For a house or villa, a 7 kW single-phase charger is usually enough. 11 or 22 kW only makes sense with a three-phase supply and a car that accepts it.
- The cost depends mostly on cable length, protection devices and a possible power upgrade, not only on the charger. It is therefore quoted per site.
- In shared residences and businesses, per-user metering and power management matter as much as the charger itself.
How does an EV charger installation work?
In four steps, and the first one matters most. You do not pick a charger from a catalogue before looking at the electrical installation that will feed it.
- Site survey. An electrician checks your contracted power, the supply type (single-phase or three-phase), the panel and the cable route to the parking space.
- Sizing. From that follow a sensible charger power, the protection devices required and, if needed, a power upgrade request to your electricity distributor.
- Installation. A dedicated circuit from the panel, protection, wall or pedestal mounting, connection.
- Commissioning. A real test charge with a car, RFID or app setup, and, if the charger is supervised, connection to the platform.
At Chargma the process is the one described on our partners page: we assess your needs, then install within days.
7 kW, 11 kW or 22 kW: which power should you choose?
The right power is the one your supply and your car can actually use.
| Power | Supply | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| About 7 kW | Single-phase, 32 A | House, villa, private bay in a residence |
| 11 kW | Three-phase, 16 A per phase | Three-phase villa, business, fleet |
| 22 kW | Three-phase, 32 A per phase | Public car park, hotel, fast turnover |
Two points prevent most disappointments:
The car limits AC power. The car’s on-board charger decides what it accepts on AC. A car limited to 7 or 11 kW will not charge faster on a 22 kW unit. Check your model’s specifications before buying.
Overnight does the work. A car plugged in for eight to ten hours on a 7 kW charger easily recovers a day of city driving. At home, high power is rarely needed.
Do I need a charger or will a normal socket do?
A dedicated charger, as soon as charging becomes a daily habit. A household socket is not designed to deliver high current for hours every night. A charger brings a dedicated circuit, protection suited to EV charging, and a handshake with the car that cuts power cleanly on a fault.
It is also the charger that later lets you identify the user, meter consumption and manage power.
What drives the cost of an EV charger installation?
The price is quoted per site because it depends on the site more than on the charger. The items that move the bill:
- distance from the panel to the parking space, so cable length and cross-section;
- routing work: chasing walls, trunking, going through a wall or slab, trenching outdoors;
- protection: a dedicated breaker and residual current protection suited to EV charging;
- the panel: an old or full panel may need rework;
- available power: if your current contract is not enough, a power upgrade with the distributor is added to the project;
- the charger itself: power, connectivity, RFID reader, built-in meter.
Be wary of a price given without a survey. It rarely covers the items above, and the gap shows up on installation day.
Home, villa, residence, business: what changes?
The electrical principle is the same. What changes is who consumes and who pays.
House and villa. The simplest case: the charger is on your meter and you pay your own electricity. Watch your contracted power, especially if air conditioning or a pool pump runs in the evening.
Shared residence. The charger is often fed from the common areas. Without per-resident metering, everyone pays for one person’s car, and the dispute lands at the general meeting.
Business. Staff, fleet and visitors need to be separated, and power shared between connected cars so the supply is not overloaded.
Does a home charger need management software?
Not necessarily. A private charger used by one person works fine without a subscription.
Supervision becomes useful when you need to know who charged how much: an employer reimbursing an employee’s home charging, a residence recharging each owner, a company tracking its fleet. In those cases the charger must be OCPP-compatible so that a CPO software platform can manage it.
At Chargma, a private charger falls under the Basic plan at 65 MAD per charger per month. Splitting employer and employee, with home charging reimbursement, falls under the Plus plan at 85 MAD. Details on the pricing page. The vocabulary is explained in our EV charging glossary.
Frequently asked questions
How long does installation take?
The work itself depends on the site: cable length, wall crossings, the state of the panel. The overall timeline also depends on the survey, equipment availability and any power upgrade with the distributor.
Do you work in my city?
Our support team is based in Casablanca and Marrakech. For an installation elsewhere, contact us about your city and we will tell you what is possible.
My car came with a cable: do I still need a charger?
The cable supplied with the car is a fallback. For daily charging, a charger on a dedicated circuit is safer and faster.
Can I install a charger in my residence’s car park?
Yes, but it is settled with the property manager: which meter, what metering, and who pays.
Where to start
Gather three things: your contracted power, the approximate distance from the panel to the parking space, and your car model. Email us with those and we will come back with a quote.
